gnome-session-properties also lets you edit startup (ie if you want some compiz composition manager effects (compiz is not compatible with gnome3, gnome3 has its own compositing manager called mutter) so add 'mutter --replace' in your startup for a few effects
You'll also want to install gnome-tweak-tool for advanced gnome3 session-fallback theme settings

Helpful gnome3 things

Okay, if your like me and using gnome3, but like the classic gnome2 using gnome-session-fallback. Well if your using that then the close/minimize/maximize icons are on left hand side, and as far as I know there are no GUI options to change that. Changing your theme doesnt do it either.

Anyway, just type this in console

gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string "menu:minimize,maximize,close"

Other helpful things
gnome-session-properties <--- lets you set programs to autostart when gnome3 loads IE 'mutter --replace' for gnome3's compositing engine
